Organ books are one of the most common musical sources  in the whole of Central Europe. In historic Bohemia they were almost always connected with particular town or village teachers, who used them for their organ playing in church and for teaching purposes.  Until the second half of the 19th century, the ability to play the organ was a basic and indeed indispensable qualification for successful activities as a teacher.
