Product description
In an overall form of ABA, this 4-mallet piece was meant to be in ballad style and played with as much expression as can be gained. Even though meter changes occur frequently, this ballad style is to be maintained. The first main section is set into a smaller ABA form with the melody in the right hand. Make sure the left hand melody needs to be brought out when performed. The second main B section is meant to be gradually increased in tempo, keeping the tension tight. There are many possible sticking combinations using 4-mallet technique. The performer should explore the one that continually keeps the tempo increasing. I do not recommend it performed in a 2-mallet technique.
The last section is basically a repeat of the first main section with added harmony and rhythm to the melody. The last 8-10 measures should have the tempo and dynamics increased until the tension is released in the last three measures. If you have any memory of a “Long Lost Love,” keep that thought with you in your performance. It can help you achieve the expression that this solo was meant to have, being that this solo was a personal journey for me, bittersweet.
