back to previous selection
Claude Debussy (1862-1918) was a French composer and conductor, one of the most important representatives of musical impressionism. Debussy's style is characterized by subtle colours, rich harmonies, unusual tonal shifts and the ability to evoke dreamscapes, delicate moods and sensual impressions. Debussy's work influenced a number of composers and was at the birth of a new musical aesthetic that broke away from the strict rules of classical harmony. His music gives the impression of freedom, spontaneity and refined simplicity.
