Product description
La Belle Excentrique is a suite of three dances (Marche franco-lunaire, Valse du mystérieux baiser dans l'œil, Cancan grand-mondain) and an instrumental ritornello (Grande Ritournelle), composed by Satie in response to a commission from the French avant-garde dancer and choreographer Caryathis for her first major post-war recital. Jean Cocteau contributed to the work as costume designer and author (he also coined the title La Belle Excentrique).

Erik Satie (1866-1925) was a French composer and pianist who was in many ways ahead of his time. He was the son of a French father and a British mother. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire but did not complete his studies and began working as a pianist in a café in Montmartre, Paris. Later he began composing, mostly for solo piano. Satie is considered a forerunner of Impressionism and Neoclassicism. Among his most famous piano works are "Gymnopedie" and "Gnossiennes".
