Product description
10 Jazz Inventions for Two Trombones is an original collection of ten short pieces that give players the opportunity to develop their jazz sensibilities in chamber music without the need for improvisation. Each of the inventions is written in a different style—swing, blues, Latin, or ballads—offering a diverse musical environment in which trombonists can master typical jazz phrasing, rhythmic precision, and dynamic work. Each composition emphasizes the interplay between the two instruments and allows players to try out a wide range of jazz musical expression in an accessible and clear form. The book is an excellent choice for teachers and trombone duos looking for a modern and entertaining repertoire.
Lennie Niehaus (1929–2020) was an American saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator whose name is inextricably linked with the history of 20th-century jazz and film music. He studied at California State University in Los Angeles, where he received formal musical education, and shortly thereafter became a saxophonist in Stan Kenton's jazz orchestra. It was here that he made a name for himself not only as an excellent player, but also as a respected arranger who brought new elements to the big band sound. In addition to his jazz activities, Niehaus also made a name for himself as a film music composer, writing the music for The Untouchables (1992) and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997), among others. In the field of education, he created a number of method books for wind instruments, including the popular series Jazz Conception and Jazz Inventions, which help players master the stylistic elements of jazz.
