Product description

“Keys to Stylistic Mastery” is a three-part series of books of increasing difficulty that teach pianists the basic principles of the five styles of classical music (Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist and Contemporary). Pianists will learn to play specific rhythms, harmonies, melodic embellishments, and performance techniques, gaining not only greater technical proficiency but, more importantly, a sense of authentic performance of the musical style. The pieces of each musical style are preceded by information about the selected composers, the keyboard instruments used, typical forms of the pieces, and other important information about that style of music. The book also includes brief biographies of each composer whose compositions are included in the book.

Dennis Alexander (born 1947) is an American composer, pianist and teacher. His compositions, characterized by their melodic inventiveness and pedagogical sophistication, have been popular with students and teachers around the world. For 24 years, he was a professor of piano and piano pedagogy at the University of Montana. After retirement, he devoted himself exclusively to composing and performing. He is the author of over 400 piano compositions and teaching titles that stand out for their musical appeal and pedagogy. Alexander masterfully combines accessibility with musical depth in his works, motivating students to discover the beauty of music and develop their technical and performance skills.
