Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778 - 1837) was an Austrian composer, pianist, conductor and music teacher. His main instrument was the piano, on which he was one of the greatest virtuosos of his time. He wrote eight piano concertos, ten piano sonatas, many pieces for chamber ensembles with piano cast, concertos and sonatas for mandolin, concerto for trumpet, bassoon concerto, also wrote 22 operas and a number of other smaller compositions. His music is characteristic of the period of transition between classicism and romanticism.
