- Sonata No. 1 in F
Product description
The Sonata No.1 in F is one of Baldassari's best-known surviving compositions. The present edition is based on a copy preserved in the National Library in Vienna. The source, however, is undated, but it is assumed that the work must have been composed sometime in the early 18th century. The sonata was originally written for trumpet (cornet), strings and basso continuo, but now we offer this work in an arrangement for C trumpet (cornet) and piano.
Pietro Baldassari (1683-1768) was an Italian Baroque composer and music teacher whose life and work are mainly associated with Brescia. He was mainly devoted to sacred music and his work is typical of the Italian Baroque - it stands out for its melodic inventiveness, rich harmonies and sensitive setting of liturgical texts. Little information about Pietro Baldassari's life has survived, but his work remains a valuable testimony to the musical culture of the Italian Baroque.
