back to previous selection
Erik Satie (1866-1925) was a French composer and pianist who was in many ways ahead of his time. He was the son of a French father and a British mother. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire but did not complete his studies and began working as a pianist in a café in Montmartre, Paris. Later he began composing, mostly for solo piano. Satie is considered a forerunner of Impressionism and Neoclassicism. Among his most famous piano works are "Gymnopedie" and "Gnossiennes".
