Product description

Michael Kocáb wrote the three-movement Sonata for piano in 1975 while studying at the Conservatory in the composition class of Professor Ilya Hurnik. It was a time when he was fascinated by jazz and tried to transfer elements of jazz into classical music. The piece is rhythmically beautiful, with stark harmonies using spare neoclassical devices, a bluesy contrasting middle movement and lyrical parts in the first and third movements. The recording, performed by pianist Tomáš Víšek, can be heard on the enclosed CD.

Michael Kocáb (*1954) is a Czech composer, keyboard player, pianist, singer, civil activist, politician and businessman.
