Product description

The piano cycle Film en miniature, which was written by Bohuslav Martinů in 1925, falls into the Parisian period of the composer's work. French music, and especially Paris itself as the "Mecca" of post-war art, had fascinated Martinů and appealed to him already during his studies in Prague. In 1923 he succeeded in obtaining a stipend from the Ministry of Education and Enlightenment for the study of composition in Paris; in the end he extended the three-month stay another 17 years - remaining in France until 1941.

Bohuslav Martinů (1890-1959) was a Czech composer, violinist, pedagogue and music critic. His artistic development progressed from impressionism through neoclassicism, expressionism and jazz inspiration to a purely compositional style of his own. Stylistically, he is closest to the generation of neo-classicists such as Arthur Honegger, Béla Bartók and others.
