Arnold Cooke (1906-1905) was a British composer. He learned piano and cello as a child and began composing at the age of seven or eight. He studied at Cambridge University and gained a degree in history, and then graduated also the Faculty of Music. In 1929 he moved to Germany, where he studied with Paul Hindemith at the Berlin University of the Arts. After his studies he returned to London and became a professor of Harmony and Composition at the Royal Manchester College of Music. During the Second World War he served throughout the war in the Royal Navy. In 1947 he returned to London and taught composition at Trinity College of Music until 1978, when he retired.
