"Jazz Microetudes" brings you 11 short and easy jazz studies written by Emil Hradecký for beginner pianists. The goal of these exercises is to introduce beginner jazz musicians to phrasing in jazz music, which is very different from classical music. The etudes introduce and practice the phrasing of eighth notes, playing syncopation, walking bass, the blues scale, and the basics of improvisation and boogie-woogie. Before each exercise, there is a short recommendation for the correct jazz interpretation of the given etude.
The book includes a link to a website where you can download demo recordings of each etude in mp3 format. Each etude also has a QR code for playing the demo recording on a mobile phone.
Emil Hradecký (*1953) is a Czech composer and piano teacher. Hradecký graduated from the State Conservatory in Prague and after his studies he began working as a teacher at the Elementary School of Music in Prague. Most of his compositions are addressed to children, for whom the distinctive rhythm of his compositions opens up a new musical world. He is one of the few music teachers who consistently and passionately devotes himself to the genre of dance and jazz music with his students. The vast majority of his compositions are intended for piano, but Emil Hradecký is not only devoted to jazz and dance music; his "non-jazz" compositions are melodic, pleasant to listen to and, above all, popular with teachers and their students. His work for other musical instruments or songs for children's vocal ensembles and choirs is also successful.
