Who doesn't know Johann Sebastian Bach's Chaconna, the final composition from his Partita no.2 in D minor for solo violin? Time and again, composers are inspired to open up this exceptional work for other instruments as well. Perhaps the most famous arrangement of this composition was created by Ferruccio Busoni. Without straying too far from Bach's original, he managed to transfer the virtuosity of violin playing to the conditions of a keyboard instrument and thus created a piano composition that makes good use of the possibilities of the modern piano.
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) was a German composer and musician of the Baroque period. He is considered one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time. He was a master of polyphony and brought to perfection the musical form of the fugue. He composed 1126 musical compositions of various forms (they are referred to by the abbreviation BWV and serial number). In his time, Bach became famous mainly as a keyboard player, but as a composer he was less known. His music was perceived as conservative, and after his death it fell into oblivion for almost fifty years.
Ferruccio Busoni (full name Ferruccio Dante Michelangelo Benvenuto Busoni) (1866 - 1924) was an Italian composer, teacher, music theorist and piano virtuoso. Busoni wrote around 300 of his own compositions and more than 100 other works are piano arrangements of compositions by other composers, among which the piano or organ arrangements of works by Johann Sebastian Bach stand out.
